- Upgrade your hardware: If your PC’s and network switches, routers and cabling are outdated or underpowered, upgrading to newer equipment can significantly improve your network’s speed and performance. Networks used to run on 100mb connections – now we often see 1000mb (1 Gigabit) as the bare minimum!
- Optimise your network settings: Make sure your network settings are optimised for speed. This includes adjusting your internet router settings, adjusting your network adapters, and using faster DNS servers tom improve web-browsing speeds.
- Use wired connections: Whilst WiFi is brilliant, nothing quite beats a wired connection for reliability! Saying that, we’re installing new ‘WiFi 6‘ routers for our existing customers – and these are light-years ahead in terms of reliability and speed!
- Reduce network congestion: Networks are often clogged up with un-needed devices. This congestion can slow down your network – so be sure to not overload it with too much traffic. Limit the number of devices on your network, or use a network switch to distribute the load.
- Use Quality of Service (QoS): QoS allows you to prioritise certain network traffic (such as phone lines, or videos). This helps to make your browsing as smooth as possible – and improves the speed of important applications and services.
